Alex's Notes

Mahalo for you interest in joining this amazing, affordable and unique journey on America's Historic Trails.

Amazing, Affordable and Unique
Earlier this year when I was searching for new, amazing and unique North America program prefect for the month of May I reached out to my longtime friend Ronda Dotts, Globus Family's North America Product Manager. Ronda applied her magical talents to our Route 66, Alaska & the Yukon, and Canadian Rockies programs in the past.

I asked Ronda how she felt about the Historic US program which caught my eye.
This is what she wrote me - Interesting that you mention the Historic Trails... I took the tour a few years ago... and I was pleasantly surprised. Being perfectly honest with you, I had absolutely no interest in seeing this part of the country and I would have been content never seeing it. I am so glad that I did though. My lack of interest for the area was completely turned around with the beauty and interesting attractions that I saw first-hand. Yes, I researched and wrote the itinerary, so I knew about the history of Gettysburg, Harpers Ferry, Monticello, and Mount Vernon, but seeing these places and experiencing them first hand was wonderful.

Ronda went on to write me a detailed three-page email vividly describing the program and how we could add a few twists. I was sold.

Amazing:
Our American history and cultural sights make this program amazing. Places like Gettysburg explained by a licensed battlefield guide; the 19th century buildings of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park; Lincoln's one room cabin replica at Sinking Spring Farm; the fourth largest Civil War museum in Bardstown's; the living history pioneer Museum & Farm of Appalachia; the reconstructed buildings and living historical displays of Colonial Williamsburg; visiting with one of our Hawaii Congress Representatives at Capitol Hill and much, much more...

Affordable:
Being an affordable Cosmos brochure itinerary with a few of Ronda's interesting modification keeps the price reasonable. With the Globus Family are once again allowing us to operate a journey outside of the normal programing for great weather opportunities and the sensational Barbara Buryiak as our director, it's resembles a custom created program (all excursions included).

Unique:
Special experiences abound on this itinerary like an overnight INSIDE Shenandoah National Park; exploring the Saddlebred Museum and grounds at the Kentucky Horse Park; tasting samples at Kentucky Bourbon Distillery and later at Sugarland's Moonshine Distillery; visiting Colonel Sander's original fried chicken restaurant; stopping by Cooter's Garage (Dukes of Hazzard); reminiscing in Andy Griffith's hometown and inspiration for Mayberry RFD (seeing Floyd's Barber Shop); Dinner at Myron Mixon's Pitmaster BBQ; plus, plus, plus...

Barbara B's Specials
For the second year in a row Barbara happened to be assigned multiple Historic US itineraries. This gives her the chance to work out her special additions (she knows our 'Ohana). In July she wrote me to say:
Right now I’m at Dollywood on the Historic US. I hope the pieces are coming together for next year. This journey has lots of fun, interesting, scenic, historic, and quirky stops that your travel 'Ohana love. It’s almost as if it’s a custom designed for “Alex and his Happy Hawaiians!” Plus, lots of Cracker Barrels & other authentic home cooking and for the grand finale, a Trader Joe’s in Alexandria!

Plus the Scenery
Then there's the magnificent beauty of the area like the green pastures, white-board fences, and the columned estates of Kentucky Bluegrass Country; the view from the top of the Crockett Mountain overlooking the Smokies; drives through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with its world renowned diversity of plant and animal life; the tranquil setting of Mabry Mill (one of the most photographed spots in the country); the 215-foot-high Natural Bridge in its wooded setting; and cruising the majestic Potomac River...

Once again with the help of friends like Ronda and Barbara, at the Globus Family, we are able to carry on the Dold Family Tradition of Value, Service and Making Travel Dreams Come True.

Pray this itinerary appeals to your sense of pioneer exploration. Please contact me with questions.
