Alex's Notes

Knowing how much I love cross country exploration, the amazing Barbara Buryiak has been suggesting I do a Lincoln Highway program since its 100th Year Anniversary in 2013. In fact, she even bought me a book on the subject. Barbara has given our Travel Ohana the ultimate experience on both the "Route 66" and "Across Northern US" journeys. Her personality, stories, costumes and extras help make the itinerary come alive.

It was an honor and an eye opener to work with Barbara in designing this America's Heartland routing. It was obvious that she knows her stuff. Since a lot of the Lincoln Highways crosses parts of the country which we have seen on the "Route 66" and "Across Northern US" we decided to travel the less explored Heartland of America.

With Shannon Connolly applying the final details and putting it into operation, our trip has all the variety and uniqueness we have come to love. Shannon was responsible for both our "Across Southern US" and "Across Northern US" programs. Just like Barbara, Shannon knows our Travel Ohana well.

This itinerary features many special experiences like a Brooklyn Pizza Tour with Coney Island and Brighton Beach; taking in the creativity and innovation process that goes into Hallmark's heartwarming greeting cards; seeing the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the drivers view; visiting a Des Moines estate modeled after the King's House in Salisbury England; and hearing an insider's perspective on life at Boy's Town.

There is something for everyone with our variety of uniqueness with places like the Penn Museum, considered one of the greatest archaeology and anthropology museums (one our Travel Ohana kept raving about his alma mater's museum on our Central America adventure. We have to see it); an Amish Farm & House where the residents are forbidden to use electricity or telephones; the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches, generations and conflicts; and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center whose mission is to reveal stories of freedom’s heroes, from the era of the Underground Railroad to contemporary times.

Of course there are the Lincoln Highway highlights like the "Roadside Giants" in Pittsburgh; The Lincoln Highway Experience in Latrobe which preserves the memories our nation's first coast-to-coast highway; traveling over Original Lincoln Highway Bricks; and a photo stop at the "Midpoint" of the Highway.

At just $100 over our 2013 "Across Northern US," it is an affordable Cosmos itinerary which will leave us with a deeper appreciation of our country and its many man made and natural treasures.

With the help of my friends at the Globus Family, we are able to carry on the Dold Family Tradition of Value, Service and Making Travel Dreams Come True.

The second half, Denver to San Francisco, will be in 2018 - stay tuned!
