Alex's Notes

Voted the Number One desired 2016 journey overall by our E-mail Ohana, it is no wonder why the August journey sold out and was on wait list prior to the itinerary being published. Now with the postponement of the Eastern Europe program, we have the chance to explore the enchantment of the British Isles in the spring with its crisp weather and blooming flowers (but no Military Tattoo).

Both departures take us through the picturesque lands of queens, kings, and leprechauns; with their glorious palaces and castles; amazing history and culture; and most amazing scenery. I love that it includes Belfast, Northern Ireland, a first on our Globus UK programs. It was also one of European World Travel's longest running itineraries. Pray you will find the itinerary appealing.

Exploring British Pomp and Circumstance
We visit some of the splendid castles and palaces for which Britain and Ireland are famous. At Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace enjoy a walking tour through the breathtaking gardens featuring sparkling fountains and magnificent flower displays. Stroll through the gardens and tour Malahide Castle, one of the oldest castles in Ireland and home to the Talbot family for over 800 years. In Edinburgh visit Edinburgh Castle, where we marvel at the Scottish Crown Jewels, and Holyrood Palace, The Queen’s official residence in Scotland. Finally, enjoy a tour through majestic Blenheim Palace, built in the early 18th century and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Globus has even included a special treat here—a glass of champagne while overlooking the Water Terraces, part of the formal gardens.

Entertaining Guides
One of my favorite memories of the British Isles program was anecdotes told by our tour director and locals guides. They made the journey come alive. On this itinerary through Britain and Ireland, we have a specially chosen tour director with us the whole way supplemented by many local guides—experts from the area who will give us in-depth, insider knowledge of the cities and their attractions. In London, entertaining Carlotte will show us the highlights including a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral; in Killarney, listen to our Jarvey on our jaunting car ride tell us stories, anecdotes and local gossip; in Belfast, our “Living History” guide will explain the troubles in Northern Ireland while pointing out the city’s famous landmarks; and in Edinburgh our sightseeing includes both the “New Town” and “Old Town.” All of this—and much more.
