Alex's Notes

This unique program was created from an outline of Todd Ney's personal vacation. You might remember Todd as he is the travel guru whose advice I seek every year. He has designed a great number of our custom programs, like Indonesia & Malaysia, Panama & Colombia, and Peru, Bolivia & Chile.

After spending a few months working on this itinerary, I can see why Todd wanted to explore this magnificent region. To start, Guatemala is probably the MOST colorful country in all of Latin America. The Mayan Culture is alive and thrives here. On this program, in the towns of Chichicastenango,Santiago Atitlan, and Solola, we have the opportunity to mingle with the locals and observe. This is one of the few places in the world where visitors commonly see the locals wearing their traditional dress, many of which have been passed down through the ages.

Of course the highlight of this journey is experiencing the cradle of Mayan Civilization and learning about the first inhabitants of the continent. Discovering how they developed farming, complex societies, architecture (that still stands today), communications (written and spoken), and some of the most accurate calendars in the world are a huge part of this adventure. The sites we visit (4 of them UNESCO) in Guatemala and Honduras are of the pre-classic and classic era. In fact, almost every site we see dates back to at least 1000 BC - Copan to 2000 BC. Talk about ancient. The temples in Mexico are babies in comparison.

Mahalo to the amazing Kim Vincent, Globus Family's Product Development Manager for Latin America, and her team for making this adventure happen. I love the way they were able to continue the Dold tradition of value, as this First Class Globus program includes full days of sightseeing, unique top of the line hotels, breakfast and dinner daily, plus four lunches while touring, and priced just below $5,000. Being a custom program, there are no optional excursions, so basically you only need money for shopping. Nothing like exploring the Wonders of the World in style.

To encourage you to explore the world, we are offering a $100 discount to the first 15 and a $75 discount to the next. Keep in mind, our sign-up discount deadline for this journey is October 31, 2015.
