Alex's Notes

Mahalo for your interest in joining one of our family's favorite and once European World Travel most popular programs, Portugal, Spain & Morocco.

Family's / European World Travel's Favorite
Here is an excerpt from my wife Doreen's 2013 Portugal, Spain, & Morocco cover letter:

This is among our most popular tours of all time because it offers guests diverse cultures, wonderful stories, and changing landscapes.

My fondest memories of Portugal are of Obidos because it was so quaint; Fatima and its mysteries; and all of the country’s architecture, craftsmanship, and colors. Morocco was memorable for its Fez Medina, which the local children can navigate as well as the adults; the chicken tagine (fall-off-the-bone tender), and the sweetest oranges I’ve ever tasted before or since. The ceramics, artistic treasures in Seville (buildings, tiles, and gardens), and acres of olive tree farms throughout Spain still stand out in my mind. The trip was entertaining and educational.

As you can imagine, we are very excited about the adventures and sights that await you, including beautiful Jeronimos Monastery; a walk through the bustling Fez Medina, where donkeys serve as Coca-Cola delivery trucks; and the intricate artwork of the Alhambra. On the Moroccan portion of this itinerary is also Ouarzazate, and Erfoud (and a four-wheel drive through the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert). There is something for everyone on this tour: Architecture, music, delicious local specialties, art, shopping, history, natural scenery, and fun Silver Screen references (including a special lunch at Rick’s Café in Casablanca).

Morocco A Highlight
Ted Kanemori recently exclaimed, Morocco was the highlight, a sentiment echoed on the evaluation forms of the majority of those who took our program. I believe it has to do with the unique culture. Very different from our own and in some ways similar. It's a destination which lets you get of taste of the Middle East with the level of security equal to Portugal (currently Alert Level 1 - the lowest).

For Morocco we have a guide extraordinaire. Our great friend Mohamed M'saouri has been leading our journeys for over 15 years. He is extremely knowledgeable, very caring and most of all has a brilliant sense of humor. His famous "Just Kidding..." line will travel home with us. During one of our rides through the countryside, he'll explain Islam and Arabic tradition in detail. It's an eye opener.

Best Times Of The Year
Once again, my friends at the Globus Family are allowing us to operate a journey outside of the normal programing. At one time this journey was offered year-round. Although in the past, we found the weather in the area to be cool and comfortable in March. With beautiful spring flowers in bloom and right before the crowds of the tourist season (like this year's Greece Cruise).

Making Flying Comfortable
Reaching out to our 2018 Greece 'Ohana, I asked about our flight home from Athens. Many enjoyed our day room break on the way over. The return was a nonstop route which had us up at 2 am (cutting short our farewell dinner) only to maneuver around monstrous Frankfurt Airport and wait 5 hours for our connection. Twenty-Seven hours later we were home. I asked if they would consider leaving in the mid-morning going straight to the Newark (skipping Frankfurt) and pay about $90 for an overnight. Majority said YES.

With comfort in mind our program includes private individual hotel day rooms in Newark on the way to Lisbon and an overnight in Newark on the way home. Hence the day longer. Please see our flight.

With a special departure (not listed in their catalog) at a fabulous time of the year to explore Portugal, Spain & Morocco; an extra day in Lisbon to explore Obidos and Fatima; an Newark day room use on the way over and Newark overnight on the way back for a more comfortable flight schedule; and an extraordinary Moroccan guide, Mohammed: this program continues the Dold Family Tradition of Value, Service and Making Travel Dreams Come True. Pray this itinerary appeals to your sense of unique adventure.
