The preliminary flight schedule is ready and can be found online at doldworldjourneys.com under the journey's page. Day 2 Arrival in New York City.Welcome to the "Big Apple!" After a comfortable flight we touch down in Newark in the afternoon and are met by our special director and transferred to the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel. The balance of our day is at leisure to relax or wander. Our director and Alex, our Hawaii host, will be on hand to assist us. Day 3 To Boston, Massachusetts.This morning we discover Manhattan, one of the world's most exciting cities. On our included sightseeing see Broadway, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Chinatown, City Hall, Wall Street, and Trinity Church. In the afternoon we head to Boston--the "Cradle of American Liberty." An elegant city that combines early colonial history with modern innovation. On arrival see many of Boston's historic landmarks reflecting the important part it played in the history of the United States. The next two nights are at the Holiday Inn Boston - Bunker Hill. (B) Day 4 Exploring Boston.On our guided exploration of "Bean Town," we see the Old North Church (where Paul Revere was signaled for the departure of British troops to Lexington), Freedom Trail, and Boston Common. Finish our sightseeing at Faneuil Hall, a bustling historic complex featuring novelty carts, distinctive shops, national chain stores, performers, food stands and restaurants. (B) Day 5 Via New Hampshire to Quebec City, Canada.Journey through New Hampshire, passing the state's capitol dome at Concord and on to the scenic White Mountains. Capture inspiring views of mountain scenery, vast forests, and innumerable lakes along the way. Then it's on to the Canadian border, where we notice the sudden change of language and tradition as we enter the French-Canadian province of Quebec. Spend two nights in historic Quebec City, built on the banks of the mighty Saint Lawrence River. Hotel Lindbergh. (B) Day 6 Discovering Quebec City.
Start our morning with a unique experience at the Erabliere le Chemin du Roy Sugar Shack. Here we'll savor a typical Quebec breakfast, along with a guided visit and presentation to explain the process of maple extraction. Afterward, return to Quebec City for a guided discovery of Canada’s only walled city, crowned by the turrets of Chateau Frontenac. Until the British victory of 1759, Old Quebec was the center of New France; today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the walls reside the Place d’Armes, Laval Seminary, the star-plan Citadelle with grand vistas from its bastions, and ancient Place Royale. See the Old-World houses crowding narrow streets in Lower Town and the historic Plains of Abraham, where General Wolfe stormed the slopes. Day 7 To Magnificent Montreal.Drive along the great St. Lawrence River to cosmopolitan Montreal, one of the world's largest French-speaking cities. Home of Expo '67 and the '76 Summer Olympics, the city blends historic architecture with modern skyscrapers, many enhanced with public sculpture displays. Some of the major highlights on our sightseeing include Saint Joseph's Oratory, once-walled Old Montreal, Notre Dame Church, the Seminary of Saint Sulpice built by the first missionary settlers, and modern Montreal. Best Western Ville-Marie. (B) Day 8 To Outstanding Ottawa.
This morning we drive west to Ottawa, Canada's beautiful capital. Our city sightseeing includes Parliament Hill with its crest of gothic buildings, the Canadian Mint, the Rideau Canal, the hexagonal National Arts Centre, and stately residences and embassies. Day 9 Via Thousand Island Nation Park to Toronto.Today we trace the Rideau Canal south to the amazing Thousand Islands National Park. Enjoy the many wooded islands along the Saint Lawrence River, sprinkled with beautifully simple to opulent summer homes on our included scenic boat cruise. End our day in Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario and a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. The Chelsea Hotel is our home for the next two nights. (B) Day 10 Wandering in Toronto.The clamshell blocks of City Hall; the enormous downtown banking district; the ultra-modern Skydome Stadium; and stunning CN Tower, more than one-third of a mile high, all set Toronto's exciting architectural pace. See these and more on our morning city sightseeing. Then spend the remainder of the day exploring the city sights at our own pace including Harbor front, Ontario Place, and Chinatown. Tonight's special dinner outing is at the 1,815 ft. CN Tower, an internationally renowned architectural triumph with breathtaking views of Toronto. (B), (D) Day 11 To Thundering Niagara Falls.
This morning we travel southeast along the lakeshore and through the rich farmlands and vineyards of Ontario to Niagara Falls. Stop at Table Rock and hear the sound and fury of the raging waters. Then board our Niagara Falls Cruise for amazing close-ups at the base of the thundering falls. Day 12 To Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
We say goodbye to Canada as we continue southeast through the Appalachian Mountains and along a portion of the winding Susquehanna River into the rich Pennsylvania Dutch farm country. Day 13 Via Annapolis to Beautiful Baltimore, Maryland.
For awesome experience we journey to Annapolis, Maryland's capital city. We start with a visit to the Maryland State House. This beautiful piece of architecture is the oldest state capitol still in continuous legislative use. It’s also where the Continental Congress met from November 1783 to August 1784, during which time George Washington resigned as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. Day 14 Uncovering Baltimore.Our day begins with city sightseeing. Explore the long history this city has as an important seaport, and birthplace of the U.S. national anthem. Visit the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House preserving the story of Mary Young Pickersgill, craftswoman of the Star-Spangled Banner. Next, a guided visit to the Reginald F Lewis Museum, an authentic voice of African American art, history and culture in Maryland. Free time to explore Fells Point, known for its hip pubs and taverns, seafood joints serving crab and oysters, galleries, fashion boutiques line the cobblestone streets. (B) Day 15 To Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Our heading is northeast this morning back into Pennsylvania to the "City of Brotherly Love." While Philadelphia is famous as the "Birthplace of Our Nation" we're going to explore a unique side of the city. We begin with a visit to the Eastern State Penitentiary once the most famous and expensive prison in the world. Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world's first true "penitentiary," a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of prisoners. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious lawbreakers, including bank robber "Slick Willie" Sutton and Al Capone. Day 16 Back to New York City.This morning we continue north back to New York City. We make a stop in New Jersey to board our ferry for an up-close view of America's symbol of welcome and hope, the Statue of Liberty. Then on to historic Ellis Island, and discover the time period of 1892 to 1924, when over twelve million immigrants entered the United States through the portal of Ellis Island. Today, over 100 million Americans can trace their ancestry to the immigrants who crossed this island before dispersing to points all over the country. Our evening is free to do as we please. Perhaps take in a Broadway show? Our director and Alex figure out some options. Wyndham New Yorker is our home for the next two nights. (B) Day 17 Time in New York City.Today, stroll the charming tree-lined streets of the historic West Village on our guided Food Experience. Visit classic “mom & pop” specialty food shops and neighborhood restaurants. Taste delicious foods – possibly thin crust pizza, fresh filled cannoli, or delicious meatball with sauce. Our walk will reveal unique and lovely gardens, the narrowest house in New York City, and tucked-away boot scrapers that were used in the 1800’s. This evening, our director hosts a special farewell dinner. Wonderful conversation and cuisine make the perfect finale to a memorable holiday. (B), (D) Day 18 To Honolulu.Our exciting and colorful journey through the east coast comes to an end as we head to the airport this morning. We leave with a deeper appreciation of our country, our neighbors to the north and stunning beautiful scenery. Our flight arrives home in the early evening. (B) |
